Where to eat in Panjim, Goa

Looking for the best food in Panjim? Chef Ralph Prazeres shares his list of local haunts to eat at.

White House

“This is an offbeat, lowkey place in Dona Paula. I love the fact that chef Aaron’s mother is still cooking in the kitchen. If you order the rava fried pork chops, you can literally hear her pound the chops in the kitchen. Definitely try the pork chops and don’t miss the fresh catch of the day.” White House, H.No C21/25,, Near N.I.O. Post Office, Dona Paula

Miguel’s – Cocktails and Petiscos

“This is my pit stop once every week. Go here for the delicious cocktails, ceviche, beef tartare, Jackson Pollock steak and prawn risotto. I love the art-deco vibe here and always drop in to say hi to chef Madhav Dayal.” H.No 111, Bento Miguel, Old Patto Bridge, Panaji

Clube Nacional

“I’ve been visiting this place ever since I was a kid. It’s the kind of place where if you go out for a drink by yourself, you’re sure to bump into an old friend and end up striking up a long conversation. The beef croquettes and salted tongue at Clube Nacional are must-tries. And when in season, go for the urrak, which is served with a slit green chilli, fresh lime wedges and some salt.” Vaglo Building, MG Road, Near Municipal Garden, Altinho, Panaji

Cafe Tato

“For any Goan local, this place needs no introduction. Tato is usually crowded throughout the day so the best time to visit is early in the morning to have a great Goan breakfast. I love their suki bhaji. The potatoes are cooked to just the right texture and consistency with the right amount of mustard seeds and coriander. Also try their sweet buns and their Goan xacuti preparation of mushrooms that come with a side of fish and chopped onions.” Souza Towers, No. G3, Dr RS Road, Near Municipal Garden, Altinho, Panaji

Down the Road

“Down The Road is a great place to go when it’s 11pm and everything is shut. You can be guaranteed of a good evening. The place is always buzzing with live music evenings and an overall happy vibe. They serve a regular menu with Indian and Chinese food as well as pizzas, with straight pour drinks. It’s one of the few places that’s open till 4am or even 5am, on some nights.” Near Hotel Sona, Old Patto Bridge, Near Panaji

Bombil

“This is the place to get all your Goan thali cravings satisfied. There’s always a queue for lunch so make sure to get there early to get a seat. Everything on your plate is fresh and they do a bombil pickle with your thali that’s just great. They also do a really interesting Goan roast chicken that’s tangy and delicious, so have a thali for lunch and visit for dinner for the roast chicken.” Opp Military Hospital, Campal Bridge, Panaji

António at 31

“If you’re looking to walk around the popular Fontainhas area for an evening, don’t miss out on visiting António at 31 for some tapas and a cocktail. I love the guava chilli cocktail with some corn ribs and mushroom truffle rissois on the side.” H.No 4, Elite Building, 31st January Road, Tiswadi, Panaji
